Bhuvanesh Komkali

Bhuvanesh Komkali

You needn’t have been a clairvoyant to predict that Bhuvanesh Komkali would have become a classical singer. He is the son of acclaimed vocalist Mukul Shivputra and has for grandparents Vasundhara Komkali and the legendary Kumar Gandharva. “I was barely 13 when my grandfather passed away in 1992, however, I keep listening to his recordings and his lecture-demonstrations. I have absorbed his approach to the presentation of a raga, a composition, the expansion of a theme as well as the weaving of the fast tonal patterns.” There is a fluency in Komkali’s taan patterns, which are strikingly similar to those of his grandfather. The singer, who trained with his grandmother Vasundhara Komkali and with Delhi-based singer Madhup Mudgal, credits the former for teaching him how to capably explore a raga.
