Drift

Drift!! is one of the leading jazz/blues bands in the city with over two hundred performances to their credit. The band has performed both, as a trio as well as a part of larger setups featuring vocalists , saxophonists and other instrumentalists from around the world. Led by Drummer Reuben Narain, the bands music is an eclectic mix of contemporary musical styles like world music and funk with the compositional vision and improvisational styles of jazz greats like John Coltrane, Chick Corea and Thelonious Monk. Each member of this trio has toured and performed extensively as sessions muscians with some of the most sucessful jazz/rock artists in this country and abroad. They have been featured at almost all major music festivals held in India.

The Idea behind coming together as a band for us, was to write new music that could be a confluence of our personal musical journeys, without being ristricted only by commercial considerations. Also, through this band we have found a way to celebrate the music of some of our idols. The group performs the music of some of the greatest jazz/blues composers with fresh arrangements and a ‘new sound‘. Since its inception, Drift!! Has enjoyed both commercial as well as critical acclaim. They were adjudged the best band at the ‘Ultimate Santana Challenge‘08‘, The bands first single Ordinary World‘ was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine‘s top 10 downloads, Drift has also been featured by the radio channel Hit 95fm and has enjoyed regular airtime through the station.The band has been regularly featured at some of the prestigious venues like The India Habitat Centre etc. With the release of their new songs, the group aims to attain a more introspective and soulful sound than ever before.
