Gayatri Iyer

Gayatri Iyer

Who would have thought that a petite, chirpy Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow graduate would one day become an international singing star? This is exactly what has happened to Gayatri Iyer, newly-married wife of Kunal Ganjawala, an upbeat playback singer who set the sound track of Murder on fire with his song Bhige Hont Tere and more recently with the raunchy I want to make love to you in Aitraaz.

Gayatri has sung for many films before and has innumerable jingles to her credit. But the best thing everyone should know about her is the devotion of her mother whose support has brought her outstanding success. “I knew I could sing from my childhood,” Gayatri says, “My mother Lalitha Iyer, who ran our life by taking tuitions all days of the week, encouraged me. I went to the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow after appearing for an all-India entrance exam and graduated, taking a bank loan, which I paid back. But after graduation, I told my mother that I wanted a career in singing. She didn’t hesitate for a moment. She said not to worry about the loan and to do what I thought was good for me! I dedicate my success to her and my husband Kunal who has stood by me throughout my battle to do well in life.” Gayatri is already in to London for the rehearsals!
