Indian Ocean

Indian Ocean

Unarguable one of the most famous Indian Rock Bands 'Indian Ocean', a contemporary fusion band, was formed by Susmit Sen, Asheem Chakravarty, Rahul Ram and Amit Kalam. The sound of contemporary India getting to know itself is how they describe their music. Formed in 1990, Indian Ocean Indian Ocean has released incredibly brilliant albums - Desert Rain, Kandisa and Jhini. Blending jazz, rock, Indi-folk, Indian classical and various other elements, what separates Indian Ocean from other bands is their distinctive sound. Born to perform, seeing Indian Ocean perform live in concert is once in a life time experience. It is virtually impossible to imagine how a four-man-band can create such eclectic music. One needs to see it to believe it. After having performed all over India, the band left India for the first time in August 2001. They played their first concert abroad in London, and then went on to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they played 18 concerts in 14 days. Nominated “Pick of the Fringe,” they returned to that festival in 2002 and 2003. In 2002, the band played 37 concerts over four continents, including dates in New Zealand, the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and Indonesia. In 2003 they toured the UK twice, as well as Australia, Germany, Singapore, and Reunion. 2007 saw the release of Black Friday, a critically acclaimed film on Mumbai 1993 riots. Music score of Indian Ocean for the film is one of its highlights.
