Born Javed Hussein, this Delhi-born artist changed his name in honour of ghazal legend Ghulam Ali, who guided him since he was just five years old. He was only 15 when Kalyanji, one half of composing duo Kalyanji-Anandji, heard him perform. Impressed, he promised to help him establish himself as a singer in Bollywood. So, Javed Ali packed his bags and moved. He was played a part in the song Kajraa re from movie Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and He got an exceeded importance from the singers Alisha Chinai and Shankar Mahadevan.His career took an upswing after he was asked to sing ‘Nagada Nagada’ in Jab We Met. This song, which he rendered with Sonu Niigaam, helped him garner a couple of big-budget films such as Jodhaa Akbarand Aaja Nachle. So now, 14 years after coming to Mumbai, he is finally making more than just an impression.
