Over generations of Indian families moving to U.K, the bhangra culture there developed its own identity. Not very indifferent from the one back in Punjab, the music began to take a front seat in the West. At this time, the bands in the U.S were not as enterprising.
One of such bands in the U.K, was Apna Sangeet. After making a big boom on the billboards, the stars of the Apna Sangeet bought us 'Mera yaar vajaye dhol' and 'Apna Sangeet vajeh apna sangeet.' Over the years the band has kept us mesmerized with its famous tunes. From Surrey, BC (Canada) to Surrey (UK) everyone has heard of this band. Although the band has been split and reconvened several times, the new group calls itself Apna Group. The music remains the same. If you listen to a few tunes listed below, you will know what we mean.
