Rajendra Prasanna
Rajendra, born in 1957, is a talented flautist representing the Benaras Gharana. He plays the shehnai equally well! He got initial lessons from his grandfather, Late Pt. Gauri Shankar and his father and uncles. One can listen to the impressive "Gayaki Ang" in his recitations, for which he received his lessons from Padmashree Ustad Hafeez Ahmed Khan & Ustad Sarfaraz Hussain Khan (Rampur Seheswan gharana). He performed on stage at the age of 11 and has never looked back. Till date, he has been honoured with many prestigious awards including Surmani in 1978, Nadaratna in Ajmer in 1994. His foreign visits include to countries such as Holland, France, Belgium, Poland, Germany, UK, etc. and Asian countries like Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, etc. including Maharshi Music Festival in 1993 for peace. He also played for Bill Clinton, ex-president (USA) in Washington in 2000.
